Generators
Where additional resilience is required, primary and secondary generators provide the solution. A range of fuel tank capacities enable choices to be made on how long the installation will run in the absence of mains power.
The rating explainer below is generic industry-standard technical context (sizing to ISO 8528), not a Powerworks-specific claim. See REPORT.md.
Sizing a generator
Generators are sized to ISO 8528, and rated in two ways: a prime rating for continuous or long-duration running with a variable load, and a standby rating - a higher short-term output intended for backup duty, typically limited to a set number of hours a year. For power behind a UPS, a standby-rated set sized to the site's total load, plus a margin for motor starting current and future growth, is the usual starting point.
Permanent Generator Installation
Housed in its own weatherproof acoustic canopy or in a container depending on the rating of the set, self-contained generator sets can be installed outside the building, ideally close to the main building switchgear and within the external plant compound. Powerworks engineers fully install, commission and maintain the generator.
Alternatively, where the building has sufficient internal space, an open set can be mounted in a dedicated generator room, complete with exhaust and hot air ducting to an external location, sound attenuation to meet any special requirements, and fire cut-offs and a fuel filling point included in the design.
Temporary Generator Hire
Hire of a set to suit your load in the case of planned power shutdowns.
Contract hire with an 80kVA set delivered within 3 hours in case of emergency (annual contract).
Flagged in REPORT.md: the original wording was ambiguous about whether this is specifically an 80kVA set, or any set sized to load delivered within 3 hours - needs confirming.
The Powerworks technical team will advise on the best approach to meet any custom local requirements, taking full responsibility for sizing, installing and maintaining the entire system.
